Welcome to our preparation for Troop Leader Training - 2010

In TLT we plan to do whatever we can to help you lead your patrol to success for the coming year. Your job here is a very important one, and this training will help you grow in your ability to work with your peers and adults. Through this program you will make a substantial contribution to the scouts in Troop 278.

Can you name some of the benefits you can get from Scouting?

Scouting's role is in helping you to develop personal growth through values of citizenship, character, ideals, and overall fitness. As a SPL for this Troop, you are an important influence to the other leaders of this troop, and can affect them in a positive way.

It is your responsibility to lead the Troop through the Patrol Leaders' Council. Although it is the Scoutmaster's role to give you direction, you are the key leader. You will have many chances to discuss these responsibilities with the Scoutmaster, so don't feel overwhelmed.

The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader should read Chapter 4: The Boy-Led Patrol. It is about 4 pages (25-28) in the Scoutmaster's Handbook. You should both be prepared to speak at Troop Leader Training (TLT) on March 2, 2010. I say both should be prepared because I want the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader ready in case the SPL has an illness or other unplanned issue that keeps him from being ready that evening.

The Presenter will be responsible for 3 slides during the TLT Presentation. This should be in your words, but you should probably read the each of the 3 slides (11-13), and discuss each after you read it. You will have 10 minutes to deliver your portion.
